Security information

1. Expected use

Based on its structure and principles, piezoelectric actuators are used to position loads and generate driving force on a motion axis. As a laboratory equipment, it is suitable for dust-free and oil-free indoor environments. Piezoelectric actuators are not suitable for applications where product failures pose significant risks to people or the environment.

The intended use of piezoelectric actuators can only be achieved after installation and connection to compatible driving equipment.

The installation, operation, maintenance, and cleaning of piezoelectric actuators must be carried out by authorized and qualified personnel.

2. Electrical hazards

After the piezoelectric actuator is powered off, residual charges will still exist for several hours; Temperature changes or tensile or compressive stresses can induce the piezoelectric actuator to generate charges, and touching or short circuiting the actuator cable or connector at this time can cause slight electric shock.

n Do not directly touch the open end of the actuator cable or the contact points of the cable connector;

n Do not disassemble the piezoelectric actuator;

n If the piezoelectric actuator is not connected to the driving device, please discharge and store it in a short-circuit state. If the protective casing is not properly grounded, touching the piezoelectric actuator may result in slight electric shock.

n Only operate when the piezoelectric actuator is correctly grounded;

n Please follow the relevant standards for the installation of grounding facilities.

Moisture, liquids, and conductive materials (such as metal dust) that penetrate the piezoelectric actuator housing may cause damage to it.

n Operate and use piezoelectric actuators only under permitted environmental conditions;

n For vacuum compatible piezoelectric actuators, do not use them in atmospheric environments or during vacuum pumping processes.

Excessive voltage or reversed polarity can cause damage to piezoelectric actuators.

n Only compatible driver devices and cables provided by the dimension can be used;

n Pay attention to the operating voltage range of piezoelectric actuators (see product specifications);

n Pay attention to the pin definition of the connector and the polarity of the twisted wire (see product specification).

Continuous application of high voltage can reduce the lifespan of piezoelectric actuators.

n If possible, limit the maximum operating voltage during continuous operation;

n Please discharge the piezoelectric actuator after it is no longer in use.

3. Mechanical hazards

Mechanical force may damage piezoelectric actuators.

n Avoid impact and falling;

n Not exceeding the maximum allowable force of the piezoelectric actuator (see product specification);

n Avoid applying torque, bending moment, lateral force, and tension to piezoelectric actuators;

n The two ends of the piezoelectric actuator cannot be rigidly connected at the same time;

n Ensure that the center of mass or force of the load is coaxial with the axis of motion of the piezoelectric actuator. Excessive operating frequency can damage piezoelectric actuators.

n Choose the appropriate operating frequency based on the application scenario;

n Pay attention to the resonance frequency and dynamic force (see product specification).

If the waveform of the control signal is too steep or the discharge speed is too fast, it will trigger strong circuit and mechanical oscillations, and even damage the piezoelectric actuator.

n Avoid steep edges in control signals;

n Discharge voltage before short circuit of piezoelectric actuator;

n If the cable connector accidentally falls off during the operation of the piezoelectric actuator, please turn off the electronic device before reconnecting.

Uncontrolled vibrations can damage piezoelectric actuators and even their application devices.

n If vibration occurs, please immediately turn off the servo mode or power off the piezoelectric actuator;

n Check the servo control settings and their operating parameters (refer to the compatible drive device manual).

Proper cleanliness must be taken into account when operating vacuum compatible piezoelectric actuators.

n Wear dust-free gloves when in contact with piezoelectric actuators;

n If necessary, clean and wipe the piezoelectric actuator.

4. Heat hazard

The surface of piezoelectric actuators will heat up during operation, and touch may cause slight burns; Overheating may also cause damage to the piezoelectric actuator itself.

n If possible, cool the piezoelectric actuator or install contact protection devices;

n Adjust the working time, frequency, and voltage of the actuator to ensure that the working temperature does not exceed the limit. For vacuum compatible piezoelectric actuators, pay attention to the attenuation of heat dissipation efficiency in vacuum.

Install

1. General precautions for installation

Depending on the model or specification (see product specification), piezoelectric actuators and loads are usually installed and fixed using glue or screws. The installation surface must be conductive and grounded to ensure that the piezoelectric actuator can effectively achieve protective grounding.

2. Incorrect installation

1). The two ends of the piezoelectric actuator cannot be rigidly connected at the same time;

2). Avoid loading different axes and uneven loads;

3). Avoid lateral forces, torques, bending moments, and high impact forces.

3. Proper installation

1). The center of mass or force of the load is coaxial with the axis of motion;

2). In the presence of lateral forces and torques, use ball joints or flexible guiding mechanisms (flexible hinges);

3). Use glue to bond the entire contact surface to install the piezoelectric actuator, which can compensate for slight unevenness of the installation surface;

4). For non prestressed piezoelectric actuators, appropriate preloading should be applied as much as possible to avoid tensile stress.
