Echelle Grating has a low number of engraved lines and a large flare angle, and is designed to use advanced secondary diffraction spectroscopy. Stepped gratings are typically used in conjunction with other beamsplitters (gratings or beamsplitters) to separate overlapping spectra. Stepped gratings have a high spectral resolution, making them ideal for high-resolution spectral applications.

The grating is susceptible to damage, can only be taken when necessary, and can only be clamped by the edges. Rubber gloves or finger gloves should be worn to prevent dirt from touching the surface of the grating. Purified dry air or nitrogen should be used to purge the dust on the grating and not directly contact the grating.
