       The ZnSe positive meniscus lens has an ectogenous arc greater than the concave radian and a positive focal length, which minimizes spherical aberration. When combined with another lens, the positive meniscus lens can shorten the focal length, thereby increasing the numerical aperture (NA) of the system without introducing significant spherical aberrations. When used to converge collimating light, to minimize spherical aberration, light should be incident from the convex surface of the lens.

ZnSe positive meniscus lenses are based on zinc selenide, which has the characteristics of low absorption, thermal shock resistance, wide transmission band (600nm-16μm), and low absorption in the red light part of the visible spectrum, so it is often used in optical systems that combine CO₂ lasers (operating at 10.6μm) with inexpensive helium-neon lasers.
